Quilt-ish card

I am trying a new challenge blog today for inspiration: The Play Date Cafe. I have visited a few times and finally had the time to plunge into this challenge:

This was a little harder than I thought: use black and white and a splash of color.

I chose a grayish-green and created this card.

I feel like the “splash” got a little out of control but that’s why it is called a challenge.

It was simple to put together. I layered colored cardstock and white cardstock onto a card base. Then I arranged patterned paper squares and stamped images onto the white rectangle. I used a pen to create the stitch lines on the squares.

Here you can see where I actually stamped right onto the white rectangle.

Holiday Planner

A few months ago, I was at one of my favorite local stores with concentric circles in red…OK… Target. I found some discounted notebooks that I wanted to alter. The first one I changed up, I turned into a holiday planner.

I took the book apart and embellished the front cover with metallic green paper and holiday images.

The planner is divided into three parts which I labeled: gifts and thanks, cards, and notes. Each tab has a small pocket on the bottom of the page that I covered with the red patterned paper.

Each of these dividers came with a small tab. I covered them with die cut circles on both sides of the page, then I added rub-ons for the titles.  One little trick I used was spraying the red cardstock with Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels (Iridescent Gold) so it shimmered like the yellow and green metallic papers.

In between the dividers are lined pages with plenty of room for journaling gifts to give, thanks to send, cards to make and send and anything else you need to know for the holiday plans.

Mini Stamp Kit (Color Throwdown)

This week’s Color Throwdown, reminds me of summer but I am definitely seeing the beginnings of fall. Even if it is just the back to school mode with tons of papers coming home to be signed and calendars to be checked. I just wish the weather would cooperate and cool off. Back to business, check out combo #107:

In November, I’ll be sharing my artwork at 2 craft shows in the Denver area. So every week, I work on items that I’ll be selling. Today, I created a mini stamp kit that will be available. I bought a small tin from the dollar bins a while back and converted one into the same kind of kit for my niece. You can see it here. So I figured it would be a fun thing to offer at the craft show. Here is how I transformed this tin.

First, I covered the lid. The top has quite a bend in it and I wanted a way to make the paper curve around it. So, I sprayed yellow cardstock with Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels and then crumpled it up several times to soften it.

I spread a piece of double sided adhesive onto the lid and then spread the rumpled sheet onto that. After trimming the corners, I used Glue Lines around the rim to add a strip of pink cardstock.Next, I die cut, embossed and stacked a flower for the top. With the final touch being a label die template from Spellbinders™ stamped with JustRite® Stampers.

Put it all together and what do you get? This:

Shabby Chic Thank You card (2S4Y 59)

A simple but wonderful sketch challenge over at 2Sketches4You this week:

In this close up you can see some of the intricate machine stitching I did. It is actually a hem stitch with every fifth stitch being created in a zigzag and “couching” the specialty fiber in order to keep it on the card.

It was fun to create and hopefully will be fun to receive.

Sweet Holiday Tags (Caardvarks: August)

Caardvarks teamed up with JustRite® Stampers this month and challenged participants to create Christmas tags and Mini cards with their supplies. JustRite® is one of my faves, so how could I resist.

I chose to use the Christmas cup from the Something Sweet set along with the Sweet Holidays border. This is a 2-3/8″ set. Here is the set of six mini cards:

I think it would make a great gift or maybe it will find its way into my Etsy shop…hmmmm?

To create this set, I began by stamping the image and border onto white cardstock. I colored the cups with glitter pens to give them a bit of shine. {I liked how the pastel colors set off the image but didn’t overwhelm the design.}

I cut the images with Spellbinders™ circle die templates and matted them. Then each got a mini card to reside on {double sided papers cut to 3-1/2×6″, folded in half and torn bottom edge}. Check out the close up.

For some of the cards with dark interiors, I cut/embossed the S4-247 Labels Twelve die template (#3) from white cardstock and adhered it to the inside.

Welcome Friends (Color Throwdown 100)

Although the Color Throwdown challenge blog is celebrating their 100th challenge. CONGRATS!!! It’s a first for me. I often visit but just never set my mind to it. Today was the beginning of something new, I loved it. Here is the challenge:

I gathered cardstocks and this is what I chose. (The lower right corner shows the pages for the guest book.)

I created a guest book for friends who are newly married and have a cute little apartment. I thought it would be fun for their marriage as they adventure through life.

This was fun to put together. I began cutting: rose background squares, red scalloped oval, celery oval, blue border…

To create the blue border, I first cut/embossed the s4-244 Fair Isle Borderabilities® Petite. Then I airbrushed through the stencil holes.

to get this…

I cut the border into four pieces… in half vertically and horizontally. I made two identical borders to go all the way around the 6×6″ square cover.

I used a long rectangular stamper from JustRite™ to stamp “WELCOME” in the celery oval. Then I stamped the friends stamp with a border onto the blue cardstock and cut/embossed it with the S4-194 Classic Inverted Scalloped Circles LG. I gave the ink a bit of sparkle with a blue glitter pen.

I adhered all the pieces, punched the coil holes, added the coil binding and finished it with ribbons. Voila! Gift is ready.

Thankful (Caardvarks Sketch)

Feeling Blue? (JustRite Friday Challenge)

JustRite Stampers has a great Friday Challenge every week and I like to play when I can. JustRite Stampers are some of my faves with so much versatility. Go check out their site some time to see what all the fuss is about!!

This week’s challenge is to create a Sympathy or Get Well card. I think my card could be used for any kind of “blues” around. Here it is:

I never know where inspiration will find me. This time, it was the stamp itself. I wanted to use a stamp from the  Tiny Words Borders & Centers Set 1-3/16″ and the best fit was the “Cheer Up” sentiment. I felt, however, that the sentiment alone was, well, lonely. So I used the small horizontal stamper with 25 pt font  to stamp “Feeling blue?” onto blue textured cardstock…Then the card seemed to come together.

The quick instructions are:

1. Stamp “Cheer up” and scroll border in brown ink, onto yellow paper.
2. Stamp Scroll Border (Something Sweet Borders & Centers Round 2-3/8”) in brown ink onto purple paper.
3. Use Spellbinders™ S4-191 Dahlia die templates to cut out the stamped images.
4. Enhance with Spica glitter pens.
5. Prepare Mats
6. Adhere elements to card as shown, using dimensional adhesive.
7. Add ribbon
8. Send to a friend who needs a little extra smile <3

JustRite Stampers Mega March Blog Hop

When I first saw the Stitched with Love Borders and Centers Round 2-3/8″ by JustRite…I knew I had to have it. I’ve been sewing nearly as long as I have been putting special things into scrapbooks…let’s say thirty some years. So this set fit right into my creative hands.

My challenge for this post was to limit the number of things I knew I could create with the set. (*sigh*) But my feature project came into clear focus a week or so ago when I decided to get back to an old tradition~making my daughter’s Easter dress. Then, she said she was ready to learn to sew and this layout was born. (The dress isn’t quite finished yet…)

Let me tell you a few simple instruction on how to create the elements on this layout. I made the half circle embellishments first. Not tricky at all, once you know what to do. First, begin by picking some pigment ink. I chose  silver. Load up your stamp with plenty of ink and impress the image onto colored paper. Add ultra-fine detail embossing power, shake off any excess powder and heat to set. Repeat two more times.

Then die cut use Spellbinders S4-114 Classic Circles SM, #4 (counting #1 at the center.)  Then cut them in half, using a paper trimmer…like this:

Cut/emboss S4- Labels Four, #6. Stamp with “Love” heart in brown dye ink, color with Copic markers and add journaling.

For the title, stamp the “Stitched together with Love” sentiment onto colored paper using pigment ink. Heat emboss using clear ultra-fine embossing powder. Color the spool with Copic markers. Cut/emboss using Spellbinders™ S4-137 Classic Scalloped Hearts. Add dotted outline.

Stamp the flowered heart with the ric-rac border onto colored paper. Color with Copics. Die cut with Spellbinders™ S4-114 Classic Circles SM, #4.

Put the layout together by placing the matted photos in an attractive grouping near the center and sprinkle the half circles around to support the feel. Add the die cut/stamped elements to finish it off. Stunning!

You’re the Best (CPS159)

Here is a little something inspired by the Card Positioning System blog and as a little warm up for the Mega March Blog Hop with JustRite® Stampers. My set to share is Stitched with Love Borders & Centers. First, I gathered a few of my favorite supplies:

You know, this card turned out to be a love/hate project for me. Not that I actually hate it but sometimes when I design cards (I started out a full-on scrapbooker so card making still baffles me…) it doesn’t hang together.

So…I love the heart/flower element, from the Stitched with Love set…

and then, not so much lovin’ the sentiment. I don’t know what could fix it but something is not quite right.

Here’s a challenge, maybe you can make a suggestion on how to fix this card…I mean it.
