LOVE chipboard album

Today I want to share a project, LOVE chipboard album, that was inspired by the Shabby Tea Room (one of my new favorite haunts for challenges). The theme, “White and Bright” was enhanced by this photo inspiration:

I love the idea of white or cream in layers but I find it a challenge. I created the cover of this little album over 2 days, switching elements around until I came up with this design.

Here are a few tips on how to create some of the techniques in it.

• Use recycled snack boxes or cereal boxes as the base of each page and use PVA Glue to adhere metallic papers to either side.
  
• To distress the edges, go over them with the crease of a pair of scissors or use a single blade directly on the edge.
  
• To bring out the distressed look, ink the edges of the pages. {Not sure how this fits the White and Bright theme but I just couldn’t leave them “naked.”}
  
  
• Next, check out the design of the inner pages. By the way, the album is 4½x6″ so you can get four pages out of a 12×12″ piece of cardstock.

Holiday Planner

A few months ago, I was at one of my favorite local stores with concentric circles in red…OK… Target. I found some discounted notebooks that I wanted to alter. The first one I changed up, I turned into a holiday planner.

I took the book apart and embellished the front cover with metallic green paper and holiday images.

The planner is divided into three parts which I labeled: gifts and thanks, cards, and notes. Each tab has a small pocket on the bottom of the page that I covered with the red patterned paper.

Each of these dividers came with a small tab. I covered them with die cut circles on both sides of the page, then I added rub-ons for the titles.  One little trick I used was spraying the red cardstock with Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels (Iridescent Gold) so it shimmered like the yellow and green metallic papers.

In between the dividers are lined pages with plenty of room for journaling gifts to give, thanks to send, cards to make and send and anything else you need to know for the holiday plans.

2 Cards (CPS #169)

What a fun sketch over at Card Positioning System. I knew immediately that I was going to cut two coordinating, yet contrasting papers with some of my favorite die templates…just which one. After looking over my hoard, I chose the S4-192 Blossom die template set. I used #3-6 templates (counting #1 at the center) and die cut two sheets of paper so I could inter-mix them  to make the target image that is seen in the sketch. As it turned out, I only used one piece of the contrasting paper but the two cards sure were fun to make…

You’re the Best (Sketch Challenge)

Stamper’s Dream and JustRite Stampers…what a fabulous combination. This week Stamper’s Dream is sponsoring a sketch challenge using JustRite Stampers. I couldn’t pass that up. You can see the info about the challenge and the sketch, of course, on Stamper’s Dream’s blog or on JustRite Stampers blog.

First, let me share the card I created. I had a friend in mind while I was making it and that always makes it so meaningful. I will give it to her today.

I was going for a shabby-chic look here and I think I found it.

Some features of this card, include: The embossed chipboard is a Glimmer Chip from Tattered Angels and I lightly colored the embossing with a Copic Marker and then, using several thin layers, I added Liquid Laminate from Beacon Adhesives.

To make the Glimmer Chip stand out even more, I sandwiched it between a Scalloped Oval die-cut from Spellbinders and a die cut and stamped oval. (Here are my JustRite stamps). Add a couple patterned papers, a satin bow, a torn edge and there you have it: shabby chic-ness for a good friend.

January Top Ten (MME)

My Mind’s Eye is sponsoring a challenge to make an album of your Top 10 for 2010. I decided to join in the fun. January’s challenge was to make the cover. You can see mine here. Then each coming month (hopefully during the first week) decorate the pages with a Top Ten list.

I’m making this album/journal very personal with supporting text, a few photos and great My Mind’s Eye papers. Here is my January list:

The highlights of the list have some photos over on the right side: Getting Shade, our guinea pig and Make Your Own pizza party on New Year’s Eve.

I thought it was super-fun to use the Dress form patterned paper to show the new possibilities of starting a New Year. The slate is clean, so to speak, and we can make anything of it we want. Hooray for that!

The Greatest is Love

This may have just become my favorite sketch yet. Leave it to Kazan, over at 2 Sketches 4 You. She and Laura, along with their Design Team, are so inspiring. Here is Sketch 44 and here is my card!

I saw the sketch and wondered what I could use as my central image. I liked the idea of a big silk flower. I have a pack that are plain white and it occurred to me that I could airbrush over a Spellbinders Impressabilities™ template. Hooray. The best way to do this, I found, is to get a piece of scrap cardstock and place the flower on top of it. Place the Impressabilities™ template on top and Spellbinders™ Magnetic Spacer Plate underneath the cardstock. The magnet keeps the template flush to the cardstock so the airbrushing doesn’t sneak under the template. Check out the results. (I have a bonus image left behind after I removed the flower. I’ll have to see what I can make of that too.)

Next, I wanted a background that has some sparkle, so I gathered some pink paper, a background stamp, pigment ink and some Opaline embossing powder.

Here’s a little example of the shine that it gave the card (although it looks much better in person). I also applied the same ink and powder for the sentiment.

To create the center “glass” heart, I cut/embossed the heart from S3-XXX Decorative Photo Corners and sprayed it with Black Cherry Glimmer Mist. After the mist dried, I covered the surface with Watermark Ink and sprinkled a small amount of Irridescent UTEE. After heating it and allowing it to cool, I sanded off the top ridges, knocking down some of the pearl treatment. Again, I covered the surface with Watermark ink but this time, I sprinkled it with clear embossing powder and heated. I repeated several layers of the clear until I achieved the look I wanted. I will definitely use this technique again.

Besides that I cut a scalloped Heart, added a ribbon and put it all together. I have to say, I like it and it always surprises me when that happens…I haven’t been a card maker for long.

Yule + To Do = Yule Do

Don’t you just hate it when you go grocery shopping and what blasts you at the front door is not the delicate smell of fresh baked goods, spices and other yummy food but green and red, Christmas candy, decorations and accessories. I mean, it’s not even Thanksgiving, people!

But I also know that as a crafter, we can’t wait until Thanksgiving to begin putting our list together and getting our supplies ready and ACTUALLY creating…if we did, it would be Easter before we finished. So today, I want to share a little book for keeping track of some of those tasks I just listed. It’s called “Yule Do List”. I like the play on You’ll and Yule and hope yule, I mean you’ll like it too:

Seriously fun and it is about 4″ across so it can fit right in your purse, unless you have a wallet on a string like I used to have. But then, you could always use the binder clip to hook it onto the strap…Here’s what you will need to make it:

“P” is for Princess

Happy All Hallow’s Eve and welcome to my stop on the Tattered Angels and Spellbinders™ Blog Hop.

I’m joining Lesa Rapp today for the end of this blogalicious adventure. Make sure to check out–Lesa’s post {she has a super cute layout too}, the Spellbinders™ Blog and the Tattered Angels blog…but you better get movin’! Lots to see! Lots to see!

First, I loved working with the Tattered Angels products: Glimmer Mists, Glimmer Screens and Framed Fonts. These are high quality products here, friends!

I chose to create a layout because I wanted to show a couple of techniques with the products:

Let me share with you how to do the sanded frame technique…

1. Print out your photo and trim.
2. Cut a coordinating mat and add the photo to it.
3. For placement, lay the Frame Glimmer Screen on top of the photo and use a pencil to mark the side edges (pic).
4. Then, layer your embossing sandwich as follows: White Master Mat, Embossing Pad, Glimmer Screen {making sure to match up the screen and the pencil marks}, Matted photo, White Master Mat; run it through the Wizard™.
   
5. Sand the image. {I found it best to sand the photo first then brush the “dust” off with a soft paintbrush. Then sand the edges of the mat.} Notice how the white from the photo and the color from the Core’dinations comes out.

It’s ready to add to the layout!

One more technique that I want to share with you…I use coffee filters for all kinds of crafting:  catching glitter, holding buttons and…die cutting…I had to try this with the Glimmer Mists:

1. Begin by grabbing the center of the coffee filter and pulling it through your fingers so it makes a cone shape.
2. Mist the outside of the filter gently, adding layers as you like. Allow to dry and then open it up and spray some directly in the center.
3. Fold the filter in half, and half again, giving you ¼ size. Using S4-219 Nested Poinsettia die template, cut through all four layers of the filter, giving you four medium sized flowers to use. If you have trouble getting through all the layers, sometimes those coffee filters can be pesky, place a piece of cardstock on top of the cut stack and it should go through.
4. To finish the flowers for the layout, pinch the center, folding over a slight amount in a + pattern. This gives the flower dimension without being complicated.
5. Add a brad to the center of the flower, making sure you catch all the folds.

Now THESE are ready to add to the layout.
