Beautiful Things: Sketch at Prickley Pear

2 May

I’m not really a card maker. Well, I started as a scrapbooker (a’way back when), tried making cards, [not so much] went to altering items, tried making cards…sometimes they work. Mostly they don’t.

Enter, the sketch!

Yep, sketch challenges are everywhere these days and I find them to be so inspirational. Now. . . I’m almost a card maker!!! For some reason, sketches help me to focus on the “focal image” and add the right amount of other elements. If I don’t use a sketch…I feel like I’m just floating in the breeze.

So, yeah for all of us who find comfort and creativity in sketches.

Today, Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps is hosting a sketch challenge. Go to the blog to find the sketch, details on how to be entered to win  and inspiration from the Design Team.

As a little temptation to go over there…here is my design.

Instructions:

  1. Trim brown cardstock (7-1/2×8-1/2″). Fold the 7-1/2″ edge in half to create a card base. Also trim a piece of the same cardstock to 7-3/4×3″ to use as a mat later.
  2. Trim green patterned paper to 7-1/2×2-3/4″. Adhere to brown cardstock mat.
  3. Using a ruler, measure green/lime paper to 8-1/2×3-1/2. Adhere to card base.
  4. Stamp the following onto white paper:
    Flower Border Circle, in green ink. {I stamped several images so I could choose the best impressions. You will need at least two.}
Ink the top half of the sentiment in blue ink and impress into one of the Flower Border Circles.
Clean stamp and ink the bottom half and stamp into one of the circles.
  5. Die cut the sentiments using S4-Standard Circles, SM, #5.
  6. Stamp the Spring Flourish onto blue/green paper. Sprinkle with clear embossing powder. Tap off extra and heat set.
  7. Die cut the Spring Flourish stamp with S5-006 Curved Rectangles (#5, counting from the center).
  8. Adhere the shape to white paper and cut close to the edge, creating a mat. Add the circular sentiments as shown and adhere to green/brown mat.
  9. Add the sentiment layer to the card with Dimensional Adhesives.

Here’s a close-up of the top and bottom.
