Gift Card Holder–Tutorial

6 Dec

‘Tis the Season…for giving!

Gift cards can be a wonderful way to treat a special someone to something they can choose. Make sure to add a personal touch by giving it in a lovely gift holder. This one reflects the classic colors of the season.

and the side view…

This may look complicated, but following the simple step-by-step instructions below, beginners and pros alike, can create this pretty little card.

First gather your favorite cardstocks–I love to use metallic, especially during the holidays. These Stardream colors, Mars, Emerald and Coral are all from CutCardStock.com. (Check them out for fantastic products, great prices and frequent sales)!–Then grab a trimmer, some adhesive, wintery die cuts/cutting system, ribbon, etc.

Instructions:

  • Trim Coral Cardstock at 4½x9½”
  • Score Coral rectangle to prepare it for “valley folds” at 2″, 4″, 6½” {To help me figure this out, I made a pattern from brown cardstock. Now I can tuck it away in my “patterns” folder to refer to later…}
(To better see the score lines, click on the photo to enlarge)

Turn over and score for “Mountain Folds” at 3 and 8¾”

Fold along score lines as shown:
  • Trim two mats from Emerald Cardstock: 2×3½ and 2½x3½ and punch the corners with a small radius punch
  • Trim a strip of Emerald: 3/8×9″ and then cut in half to 4½” wide
  • Cut/emboss S4-224 Snowflake Borderabilities® Petite die template from Emerald to get at least 3 snowflakes.
  • Cut/emboss S4-224 Snowflake Borderabilities® Petite from Mars cardstock. Trim the border to 4½” long and 2½” wide. Keep the snowflakes and the scrap that came from the decorative edge.
  • Adhere the trimmed border to the small flap at the end of the Coral strip.
  • Flip the card over so that the large border is on the left and adhere the extra border piece near the fold on the right of the first panel.
  • To make a pocket for the gift card, cut a slit in the fold so the gift card will slip into it, add super sticky tape (with thin width) near the fold below the card slit. Press the folds together.
  • Embellish the card by adding the Emerald rectangles, strip and snowflakes along with red snowflakes.

Sweet Holiday Tags (Caardvarks: August)

6 Aug

Caardvarks teamed up with JustRite® Stampers this month and challenged participants to create Christmas tags and Mini cards with their supplies. JustRite® is one of my faves, so how could I resist.

I chose to use the Christmas cup from the Something Sweet set along with the Sweet Holidays border. This is a 2-3/8″ set. Here is the set of six mini cards:

I think it would make a great gift or maybe it will find its way into my Etsy shop…hmmmm?

To create this set, I began by stamping the image and border onto white cardstock. I colored the cups with glitter pens to give them a bit of shine. {I liked how the pastel colors set off the image but didn’t overwhelm the design.}

I cut the images with Spellbinders™ circle die templates and matted them. Then each got a mini card to reside on {double sided papers cut to 3-1/2×6″, folded in half and torn bottom edge}. Check out the close up.

For some of the cards with dark interiors, I cut/embossed the S4-247 Labels Twelve die template (#3) from white cardstock and adhered it to the inside.

These were fun and quick to create! Thanks for the fun challenge, JRS and Caardvarks.

Retail Therapy! (Caardvarks Core’dinations)

24 Apr

Some days just beg for a little card making therapy. So send a day-brightener to a friend and encourage her to get a little retail therapy. Check this out!

The Caardvarks challenge right now is to create a new monochromatic card. I figured that green and retail therapy went together. I added black as my neutral and a little bit of sparkle (that you can’t see on the pic) with gold, silver, black and green glitter pens.

One of the techniques I really love doing with the Core’dinations cardstock is embossing with some kind of template. Here I used Spellbinders’ Circles Impressabilities™, sandwiching my paper in between the template and the embossing pad, along with the master mats, and I ran it though my Wizard™.

Instructions:

  1. Stamp Fashionable Shoes ATC in black ink onto smooth side of light green cardstock.
  2. Trim image. Color shoes and border accents with glitter pens.
  3. Emboss medium green cardstock with Impressabilities™ template.
  4. Sand template to reveal the colored core.
  5. Cut embossed cardstock using S5-019 Labels Eight.
  6. Cut/emboss S4-189 Labels Three from dark green cardstock. Edge cardstock mats with dark gray marker.
  7. Tie an organza ribbon onto the Labels Eight die cut.
  8. Assemble card as shown.

My One True Love (Caardvarks)

23 Jan

I read the description on the Caardvarks blog: Create a ***NEW*** card using the color red and don’t forget to incorporate hearts!

…and the image came to me quickly…a black background with a small heart window and an even smaller heart inside. Something for my beloved. So it needed to be masculine but still a part of me.

Just don’t tell him…he’ll have to wait to have it…February 14th.

Here is a close up of the center.

Happy Valentine’s Day… a little early.   Eli

Welcome Baby card

4 Jan

I’m still enjoying the various challenges around the paper creating world. Today, I went over to Caardvarks and found a wonderful sketch over there created by Becky Fleck at PageMaps and a prize from my favorite stamp company, JustRite Stampers. So how could I resist!

I like the idea of a scalloped edge on the face of a card but sometimes it is a challenge to cut it with scissors. So my Wizard™ and I got busy with a scalloped rectangle. To be precise, S4-143 Long Classic Scalloped Rectangles LG. I used the rectangle to cut the front edge of the card.

In order to cut just one edge, layer the sandwich:

  • White Master Mat
  • Magnetic Spacer Plate
  • Die template with cut edges up and threaded with the card front
  • White Master Mat

So the die template’s left edge, as seen above, sits on top of the card back, while the right edge sits on top of the card front. Run it through the Wizard™ to cut.

You will most likely see some embossed marks on the upper edge of the card from the die template. You can work with this, enhance it to add to the design or just cover it with some other design element. I chose to ignore it on this occasion. The rest of the card is fairly simple with a few stickers, ribbons and fun flower buttons. I hope you enjoy!
