Frillions is Back!! Hooray!

17 Jul

Hello Friends of Frillions…

We made our move and have unpacked everything but the Christmas boxes and the memorabilia boxes (which I promise to do over the next year or so…lol).

It’s great to be back, creating again. Just a quick note that I’ve started another blog, “At Home in Palm Beach.” It’s on that other hosting site…just give a click to check it out. Just something a little different from here.

So, to get back into the groove, I chose one of my favorite inspirations site: Card Positioning System (CPS) and sketch #227…check it out:

I went with a stamp I’ve had for a while but hardly ever used. I stamped it in several colors on white paper and then decided which way I wanted to take it. The dark blue ink struck me as the way to go…

Which turned into this:

Just want to keep it short tonight. If you need any supply info, just send me a note and I’ll fill you in on the duds.

It’s great to be back. Cheers, Eli

Welcome Baby!

10 Apr

Some dear just had a baby girl so I got this new digital stamp, Baby Sarah and Toys from by LORi Designs. I used the sketch at Card Positioning System to put together the card. All in good fun, I say!!!

This card will welcome baby Catherine as soon as I can get it in the mail…

I wanted to create something with a modern touch, using the browns, greens and lavender. I think I succeeded.

A Friend Loves

3 Apr

Proverbs 17:17 says, “A Friend Loves at all Times,” and this quote inspired the project of a journal/thank you gift for a friend. I used the colors and Floral inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room blog challenge this week. I love the colors, patterns and bird images in this.

Here is my interpretation with a 7×7″ journal:

I love how this came together, especially this patterned paper by K&Co. Yummy!! The addition of a stamped bird, layered flowers and beautiful ribbon, really brought it to a completion and I think my friend will be blessed by it…I hope so! Here are a couple more images for your enjoyment!

Sunny Friend

22 Mar

Just a quick post today which was inspired by Card Positioning System. At first I was perplexed by the sketch but after I thought of using circles instead of squares, the sun and sunshine came to mind. Here is the sketch:

Imagine it sideways, like this:

Hope your spring has started off in a sunny way! See you soon.

Thoughts and Prayers (two)

20 Mar

I bought this stamp recently and I seem to be drawn to it. I have a lot of friends who are either facing challenges themselves or they know someone in their family who is. So I need some cards with this sentiment.

Today’s card was inspired by Color Throwdown. Featuring this blend of colors:

{By the way, they look a lot like my header colors…} This is what came from the inspiration.

I kept the card simple with the stamped image as the focal point but I finally created the ever-popular spiral flowers using the Peony die template from Spellbinders. I has hears they were easy and I do agree but it takes a little bit of finessing to get it to look just how you want.

After cutting the spiral, I glued a little cone from the middle and then put in a brad. I used the brad’s “teeth” to spin the flower into shape. To keep the flower in place, I used two Glue Dots on the back.

Important Stuff
Papers Purple Cardstock, green vellum (Prism), Green patterned paper (Memory Makers)
Stamp/Colorants Thoughts and Prayers (Stampendous), Black ink (Ranger), Sketch Y19 Napoli Yellow (Copic)
Embellishments S4-190 Labels Four, S4-193 Peony , S4-229 Labels Five (Spellbinders Paper Arts); Citrus Brads (Hot off the Press)
Adhesives Zip Dry (Beacon Adhesives), Glue Dots (Glue Dots)

Other Stuff Watercolor/text patterned paper

Thoughts and Prayers

15 Mar

I haven’t been over to Card Positioning System in a while but this sketch is so fabulous (#209)

This card came to be fairly quickly. Although the central image changed a few times, I think the final design works well.

Two techniques that I think are worth a second look: Stenciled butterfly and box pleated ribbon.

1) After cutting the butterfly, I laid a stencil on top of it and sprayed it with Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels. A light mist is best and after drying more layers can be added. Simple but maybe something you hadn’t thought of before.

This technique, placed over patterned paper makes it somewhat subdued but it provides a lovely addition to the vellum

2) Box pleating is an elegant but different way to bring texture to a ribbon. Folding it is like creating two Z’s that face back-to-back. I toyed with different ways to glue the pleats together but finally decided on stapling. It worked and I tucked the stapled edge under the edge of the mat.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you are inspired to try a new technique.

Important Stuff
Papers Paisley patterned paper (My Mind’s Eye), Clear Vellum (WorldWin)
Stamp/Ink Thoughts and Prayers stamp (Stampendous), Black Archival Ink (Ranger)
