With Sympathy

4 Mar

Using the colors from Color Throwdown (#131)

I created a simple and elegant sympathy card. I always try to keep a few on-hand.

I love going over to the Graphics Fairy to look for images. My faves are the vintage black-and-whites (so I can color them.)

To create this card, I printed the image and colored it with Copic Sketch markers. I cut out the image and then die cut a vellum sentiment. I added it, with the aid of a brad and a couple of mini Glue Dots. I highlighted the pink roses with Stickles, let the image dry and added it to the card. I capped it all off with a lovely silk ribbon bow.

Important Stuff
Paper Neenah Natural Cardstock (CutCardStock.com)
Image Digital frame graphic (The Graphics Fairy)
Accessories Fruit Punch Stickles (Ranger), Vellum card sentiment (JoAnn’s)
Colorants Sketch B16 Cyanine Blue, B41 Powder Blue, G40 Dim Green, RV19 Pale Pink (Copic)

Other Stuff Ivory satin Ribbon, white brad

Colors with a Purpose

15 Jan

Color Throwdown is a challenge blog that I have recently begun enjoying. Each week, someone from the team offers a color combo for paper crafters to use. Great fun!

This week, the team asked designers to send their creation to a fellow crafter who has been diagnosed with Cancer.  Thanks, CTd for a great focus for this week’s creations and reminding us that we are all in this together.

Here is the color combo for the week.

My card came together quickly this time:

Thinking of You (CTD #108)

A couple of days ago, I ran into some old friends and heard some sad news. I wanted to send them a card and today I had time to create. The color combination at Color Throwdown is perfect for a subtle yet elegant card. See what you think:

The second photo shows details in the card. Look at the yellow background. It is embossed with a Spellbinders Impressabilities template. Also, butterflies’ bodies have a sprinkling of brown Flower Soft. It gives the body dimension while keeping a natural look…it goes in the mail tomorrow.

Mini Stamp Kit (Color Throwdown)

29 Aug

This week’s Color Throwdown, reminds me of summer but I am definitely seeing the beginnings of fall. Even if it is just the back to school mode with tons of papers coming home to be signed and calendars to be checked. I just wish the weather would cooperate and cool off. Back to business, check out combo #107:

In November, I’ll be sharing my artwork at 2 craft shows in the Denver area. So every week, I work on items that I’ll be selling. Today, I created a mini stamp kit that will be available. I bought a small tin from the dollar bins a while back and converted one into the same kind of kit for my niece. You can see it here. So I figured it would be a fun thing to offer at the craft show. Here is how I transformed this tin.

First, I covered the lid. The top has quite a bend in it and I wanted a way to make the paper curve around it. So, I sprayed yellow cardstock with Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels and then crumpled it up several times to soften it.

I spread a piece of double sided adhesive onto the lid and then spread the rumpled sheet onto that. After trimming the corners, I used Glue Lines around the rim to add a strip of pink cardstock.Next, I die cut, embossed and stacked a flower for the top. With the final touch being a label die template from Spellbinders™ stamped with JustRite® Stampers.

Put it all together and what do you get? This:

Papers Yellow textured (Core’dinations); Green, Red Circles (My Mind’s Eye); ColorMates pink (WorldWin);
Inks/Colorants Memento Rhubarb Stalk dye ink (Tsukineko); Atyou Spica Pink and Lime glitter pens (Copic Markers)

Embellishments Flower Brad (Creative Impressions); Velvet ribbon (Fancy Pants); Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels)
Adhesive Glue Lines, Scrapbook Dots (Glue Dots Intl.)
