Pear Note Pad (Get Sketchy 53)

31 Aug

I am having a challenging time getting all the due dates correct for the challenge blogs. Oh well, I will post this anyway. The is from Get Sketchy blog challenge and I missed the deadline but I wanted to share anyway…

To make the front cover of the Pear Note Pad, I turned the sketch to the right using pear die templates up the side and a stamped sentiment.

For fun, I use recycled packaging for the chipboard covers and don’t put patterned paper on the inside. Check out the insides of this one. The pear die cuts coordinated perfectly with the Simply Fruit package.

Mini Stamp Kit (Color Throwdown)

29 Aug

This week’s Color Throwdown, reminds me of summer but I am definitely seeing the beginnings of fall. Even if it is just the back to school mode with tons of papers coming home to be signed and calendars to be checked. I just wish the weather would cooperate and cool off. Back to business, check out combo #107:

In November, I’ll be sharing my artwork at 2 craft shows in the Denver area. So every week, I work on items that I’ll be selling. Today, I created a mini stamp kit that will be available. I bought a small tin from the dollar bins a while back and converted one into the same kind of kit for my niece. You can see it here. So I figured it would be a fun thing to offer at the craft show. Here is how I transformed this tin.

First, I covered the lid. The top has quite a bend in it and I wanted a way to make the paper curve around it. So, I sprayed yellow cardstock with Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels and then crumpled it up several times to soften it.

I spread a piece of double sided adhesive onto the lid and then spread the rumpled sheet onto that. After trimming the corners, I used Glue Lines around the rim to add a strip of pink cardstock.Next, I die cut, embossed and stacked a flower for the top. With the final touch being a label die template from Spellbinders™ stamped with JustRite® Stampers.

Put it all together and what do you get? This:

Welcome Friends (Color Throwdown 100)

9 Jul

Although the Color Throwdown challenge blog is celebrating their 100th challenge. CONGRATS!!! It’s a first for me. I often visit but just never set my mind to it. Today was the beginning of something new, I loved it. Here is the challenge:

I gathered cardstocks and this is what I chose. (The lower right corner shows the pages for the guest book.)

I created a guest book for friends who are newly married and have a cute little apartment. I thought it would be fun for their marriage as they adventure through life.

This was fun to put together. I began cutting: rose background squares, red scalloped oval, celery oval, blue border…

To create the blue border, I first cut/embossed the s4-244 Fair Isle Borderabilities® Petite. Then I airbrushed through the stencil holes.

to get this…

I cut the border into four pieces… in half vertically and horizontally. I made two identical borders to go all the way around the 6×6″ square cover.

I used a long rectangular stamper from JustRite™ to stamp “WELCOME” in the celery oval. Then I stamped the friends stamp with a border onto the blue cardstock and cut/embossed it with the S4-194 Classic Inverted Scalloped Circles LG. I gave the ink a bit of sparkle with a blue glitter pen.

I adhered all the pieces, punched the coil holes, added the coil binding and finished it with ribbons. Voila! Gift is ready.

Finally, Finally, Finally…I’ve had a minute to work on a sketch challenge. I feel like I’ve been away from my craft table for weeks. But I’ve been enjoying summer, working at my new job with ShopHopProductions.com and helping over at Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps.

Today I had a graduation party for an extended family member. We’re so proud of him. I knew the sketch from Card Positioning System would be perfect.

Today, I was off to take a pic of it and my camera was unhappy with the memory card. So I scanned it… not bad, I guess…then we left for the party.

Retail Therapy! (Caardvarks Core’dinations)

24 Apr

Some days just beg for a little card making therapy. So send a day-brightener to a friend and encourage her to get a little retail therapy. Check this out!

The Caardvarks challenge right now is to create a new monochromatic card. I figured that green and retail therapy went together. I added black as my neutral and a little bit of sparkle (that you can’t see on the pic) with gold, silver, black and green glitter pens.

One of the techniques I really love doing with the Core’dinations cardstock is embossing with some kind of template. Here I used Spellbinders’ Circles Impressabilities™, sandwiching my paper in between the template and the embossing pad, along with the master mats, and I ran it though my Wizard™.

Instructions:

  1. Stamp Fashionable Shoes ATC in black ink onto smooth side of light green cardstock.
  2. Trim image. Color shoes and border accents with glitter pens.
  3. Emboss medium green cardstock with Impressabilities™ template.
  4. Sand template to reveal the colored core.
  5. Cut embossed cardstock using S5-019 Labels Eight.
  6. Cut/emboss S4-189 Labels Three from dark green cardstock. Edge cardstock mats with dark gray marker.
  7. Tie an organza ribbon onto the Labels Eight die cut.
  8. Assemble card as shown.

One last close-up look…

Faith, Hope, Love (Caardvarks)

13 Feb

This week Caardvarks is having a “Get Published” challenge. They are asking for Wedding cards and the top card will be published in the July 2011 issue of Cards Magazine. Here is where you can find out more information: Caardvarks Challenge; and here is my take on it.

I love these spring colors, purple and green, so I made this card to reflect that lovely spring feeling.

As I did with this card here, I used the Airbrush System, Copic Sketch marker and a Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® template to color the white silk flower with a pattern. I also did the same thing with the sentiment tag. Here is a closer look.

The keys to making this work beautifully can be seen in the instructions on this post but basically, I layered the following: chipboard sheet for stability, Spellbinders™ magnetic spacer plate (dark side up), scratch paper, silk flower, Impressabilities™ template (which will “hold on” to the magnet). I used the Airbrush System to color over the template and did the same for the chipboard rectangle. I stamped the sentiment onto the patterned rectangle and enhanced it with Spica glitter pen.

Besides the airbrushed flower, I cut/embossed the S4-205 Eyelets Pendants Center die template and the S4-214 Eyelets Borderabilities® Petite die template. Added some ribbon, pearls, more Spica glitter lines and heart brads that I had covered with several layers of white embossing powder. I hope it inspires you.

Important Stuff: Wizard™, S4-205 Eyelets Pendants, Center, S4-214 Eyelets Borderabilities® Petite, I2-1006 Floral and Stone Impressabilities™ (Spellbinders™); Greens and purple cardstocks (Core’dinations); Galvinized cardstock (Prism), Sweet Chips chipboard (Crafty Secrets); Heart brads (Creative Impressions); Watermark ink, Warm Violet chalk ink (Clearsnap); Sketch BV01 Marker, Spica in Clear and Mint (Copic); Craft Glue Dots (Glue Dots); 3D Squares (SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVE by 3L); 3-n-1 Advanced Craft Glue (Beacon)
