Happy Scalloped Mini Scrapbook (CPS 188)

13 Oct

Card Positioning System Challenges come out every week and feature a sketch. This week is a fabulous one that I just had to try:

I can think of plenty of ways to use this but here is what I created:

This is a fun little journal/mini scrapbook. It began as a pad of scalloped 12×12″ papers I cut down to various sizes. I combined 2 sizes for this project so the bottom layer would peak out from under the top layer. I included red, pink and turquoise in light and dark shades for the pages.

The covers are recycled from “club size” box of fruit snacks…always fun to peak inside the covers and see something you don’t expect.

For the front, I layered the gingham paper with the striped paper which had been cut/embossed with SpellbindersS4-251 Big Scalloped Ovals. I added the S4-234 Ribbon Tags Trio Two to the center, stamped with “Happy” and threaded it with a strip of paper. Finally, I bound it, added ribbons and flowers. YEAH! Hope it inspires you to create your own scalloped edge mini scrapbook.

Important Stuff
Papers Textured Scalloped paper (Die Cuts with a View), patterned papers (My Mind’s Eye)
Tools/Dies S4-251 Big Scalloped Ovals, S4-234 Ribbon Tags Trio Two, Wizard (Spellbinders Paper Arts); Owires,  Bind it all System (Zutter)
Stamp/Inks Happy stamp (Fancy Pants Designs ), Brown dye ink (Ranger)
Embellishments Sparkle brads (Creative Impressions)

Other stuff Silk Flowers, PVA Glue

Mini Stamp Kit (Color Throwdown)

29 Aug

This week’s Color Throwdown, reminds me of summer but I am definitely seeing the beginnings of fall. Even if it is just the back to school mode with tons of papers coming home to be signed and calendars to be checked. I just wish the weather would cooperate and cool off. Back to business, check out combo #107:

In November, I’ll be sharing my artwork at 2 craft shows in the Denver area. So every week, I work on items that I’ll be selling. Today, I created a mini stamp kit that will be available. I bought a small tin from the dollar bins a while back and converted one into the same kind of kit for my niece. You can see it here. So I figured it would be a fun thing to offer at the craft show. Here is how I transformed this tin.

First, I covered the lid. The top has quite a bend in it and I wanted a way to make the paper curve around it. So, I sprayed yellow cardstock with Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels and then crumpled it up several times to soften it.

I spread a piece of double sided adhesive onto the lid and then spread the rumpled sheet onto that. After trimming the corners, I used Glue Lines around the rim to add a strip of pink cardstock.Next, I die cut, embossed and stacked a flower for the top. With the final touch being a label die template from Spellbinders™ stamped with JustRite® Stampers.

Put it all together and what do you get? This:

Spring Fling (CPS 158)

15 Mar

The air is warm and I am feeling it. I just got a stamp set that has a Paris flair and I knew that it would be perfect for a Spring theme. I saw the sketch at Card Positioning Systems (CPS) #158 and thought it was perfect for this theme. Here is the sketch:

So I stamped the fresh Parisian on a scooter and colored with Copic Markers. I cut out the image and adhered it to blue patterned paper that I cut/embossed with a Spellbinders Labels die template.

Then a stamped sentiment and layers of cardstock and a ribbon accent. I think it turned out fab. Here is a little close up on the colored image.

Important Stuff:

Die Cuts: Wizard™, S4-233 Labels Nine (#5, counting #1 at the center), S4-114 Standard Circles LG (Spellbinders™)

Delight in Everything (CPS 152)

3 Feb

I found this to be a very interesting sketch, giving lots of interesting possibilities for design. I thought about what might be the most obvious to me, placing some strips down the center and adding some triangular elements on the top at the ends. So, to change it up, I decided to cut out the triangular pieces instead. Here is the result!

Important Stuff: Patterned papers (Fancy Pants); Wizard™, S4-161 Labels One, S4-252 Big Scalloped Ovals LG (Spellbinders™); E-Z Runner (SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES by 3L); Glue Rings (GlueArts); Sticky Strips (Therm O Web)

Other Stuff: Grosgrain ribbon

Here are a few hints on how to create this type of card.

Cutting the ends using the S4-161 Labels One (#4, counting #1 at the center) by lining up the points with the corners of the cardstock. Secure with low tac tape to keep the die template from slipping. Run it through the Wizard™ to cut and then emboss.

To help the ribbon hug the curve, place adhesive on the back of the ribbon (such as Glue Rings or another mini dotted adhesive) and gently use your fingers to pull the corners of the ribbon tight over the edge. Press in place.

When you finish all four ends, you’ll get this:

A few layers put together and the card will be finished. Here’s a close up!

Pure Joy (CPS-145)

11 Dec

Got a chance to throw together a card from the CPS (Card Positioning System) sketch. If you click on the link, you’ll see it on the left side. Perfect for this time of year with Christmas right around the corner.

I began with the central star image and tried to give it some special effects. I cut S4-092 Stars Five (#5, largest) from F-004 Copper Premium Craft Foil. Then I removed the Magnetic Spacer Plate and added the Tan Embossing Pad. Placed the die template, turned over so the cut ridges face down. I added the brass stencil on top and placed the final White Master Mat. I ran it through the Wizard™ to emboss. Then I sanded it lightly on the top.

The cool thing about this technique is that not only do you have a fabulous embossed design on the star but you also get an embossed border around the star, giving it a very polished look. Remove the foil star and sand it lightly all over the top.

I cut/embossed the S4-105 Sleigh Ride die template (retired) from red striped paper. Then highlighted the embossed area in the sleigh with glitter pen and add Stickles to the rails.

I layered green patterned papers and added it to the card along with the foil star. I stamped the sentiment directly onto the card and the sleigh and small star with dimensional adhesives. Voilá!

Fun, festive and fairly simple!

Important Stuff: Wizard™, S4-092 Stars Five, F-004 Copper Premium Craft Foil (Spellbinders™ Paper Arts), Clear Stamps (Fancy Pants), Brass Stencil (Heritage Handcrafts), Glue Dots, Lipstick Spica glitter pen (Copic), Platinum Stickles (Ranger)

Other Stuff: Spellbinders™ (Retired) S4-105 Sleigh Ride die template (check Google for purchasing options), Textured cardstock, Sandpaper, Patterned papers
