I love this little stamp and when I saw the colors from Color Throwdown last week, I knew I would use it with some die cut strawberries. Check out this grouping of colors:

I turned those colors into this card.

Lots of die cuts adorn this card but the fun fringe around the red mat was made by those shredding scissors…how fun is that?

Here’s a little close-up.

A Friend Loves

3 Apr

Proverbs 17:17 says, “A Friend Loves at all Times,” and this quote inspired the project of a journal/thank you gift for a friend. I used the colors and Floral inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room blog challenge this week. I love the colors, patterns and bird images in this.

Here is my interpretation with a 7×7″ journal:

I love how this came together, especially this patterned paper by K&Co. Yummy!! The addition of a stamped bird, layered flowers and beautiful ribbon, really brought it to a completion and I think my friend will be blessed by it…I hope so! Here are a couple more images for your enjoyment!

Bind-It-All Tutorial

18 Feb

Have you ever used a Bind-it-All by Zutter? I love mine. It is a wired binding system that cuts the holes and binds the wire. I love using it to make my “Perfect Travel Journals” which you can see in my Etsy shop, Frolicasions. But almost any kind of spiral bound book can be created using it.

Today, I’ll share how I bound the birthday reminder book that I posted HERE. Here is a picture of the final project that I created using CutCardStock.com’s papers.

  • After creating pages for a book, place a few of them in the cutting slot in the Bind-it-all. Depress the blue lever to cut holes for the wire binding. This book is the perfect size and all 6 holes fit the width perfectly.
  • After all the pages have cut holes, stack the pages in regular book order. Then take the back cover out from the bottom of the pile and place it on top of the pile, in the direction it should go.
  • Now trim a piece of wire from Zutter. I used 1/2″ black for this project and cut off 6 coils. Thread the wire into the 6 holes of the project, leaving the side with the cross pieces up (near December).
  • Hold the end of the book, opposite the wires and insert the wires into the “squeezing” part of the Zutter Bind-it-all, making sure the wire is centered.
  • Depress the lever to squeeze the spiral shut.
  • Release the lever and pull out your bound book.
  • Turn the back cover to the back. Add ribbons and a charm for the finishing touches.
  • Now that you’re finished…put in all your family and friend’s celebrations: Birthdays, Anniversaries, Holiday, etc.

Birthday Reminder Book Tutorial and Download

17 Feb

I am always forgetting birthdays. I can’t say I’m proud of that fact but there it is. So, I decided to make a purse-sized birthday book to store my friends special days to help me remember them.

I love tucking it in my purse, along with a few of my hand-made cards, so when I’m waiting in the carpool line at school, or for an appointment, I can jot a note to a friend AND send it on time. It’s a perfect way to spend some otherwise wasted time.

Want to make your own? Here you go:

  • For added impact, use a marker to outline the die cut image and the base die cut.
  • Using dimensional adhesive, layer the “spotlight” over the original.
  • Download the black and white birthday calendar here or the colored birthday calendar here. Print the months onto two 8-1/2×11 sheets of paper. {I actually printed the whole document twice onto four colors of paper so I could mix them up in the book. See colors below in the supply list.}
  • Trim month blocks to 4″ wide and 3-1/8″ tall and round the corners with a punch.
  • Using Neenah Classic Crest 80# Cover in Natural White, die cut 8 book pages with S5-019 Labels Eight (#6). Die cut two pieces of recycled “cereal” board from the same die to make front and back covers.
  • Adhere two die-cut pages to either side of the covers to reinforce them.
  • Embellish the pages with patterned paper blocks as seen below. Then add the month blocks.
  • Bind the book with Bind-it-All and 1/2″ wires by Zutter. (See a tutorial how use the Bind-it-All HERE)
  • Add ribbons and a charm to finish it off.

Important Stuff
Papers Pop-Tone 65# Papers in Banana Split, Berrylicious, Cotton Candy, Limeade, Classic Crest 80# Natural White (CutCardStock.com), Patterned (K&Co)
Tools S5-019 Labels Eight, S4-116 Standard Circles SM, Wizard (SpellbindersPaperArts.com),  Bind-it-All, 1/2″ Black Wires (Zutter)
Embellishments Ribbons (Creative Impressions, Darice), Stamp (etsy.com), Jet Black Archival ink (Ranger), Chic Charm (K&Co.)
Adhesives PVA Glue (LineCo), Pop Glue Dots (Glue Dots Intl.)

Other Stuff Corner Rounder Punch

Spring Fling goodie box Tutorial

17 Jan

I have had so much fun working with CutCardStock.com papers. Today, after enduring very cold days and snow last week, my mind turned towards Spring and Easter…I got this darling bunny image from Hambo Stamps (a digital stamp).

I couldn’t resist using it on a cute goodie box.

Instructions/Tutorial

  • Print image and color with Copic Sketch Markers
  • Cut S4-127 Classic Scalloped Squares LG. Use a score tool and score in a square from the divot between the first and second scallops on each side. Then score each corner on the diagonal.
  • Snip on the diagonal of each corner and fold on the score lines so that all the scallops point up. Then cut two contrasting pieces of cardstock at 4×5½”
  • Lay one piece of the just cut cardstock onto your score tool. Mark the left edge at 1/8″ and move it to ¾” line while leaving the bottom corner at the left edge. Score.
  • Flip over the piece and score the other side. Fold both edges in. Complete the scoring and folding with the other rectangles.
  • Add super sticky double-sided tape to the edges of the scalloped square.
  • Add the rectangles to the tape.
  • Add super sticky double-sided tape to the left edge of each of the rectangles as seen above. Remove the protective cover from one piece of tape, bring two sides together and secure. Complete the other three junctions.
  • Using purple cardstock cut S4-239 Classic Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite. After cutting the first time, use the inverted top scalloped edge to cut another strip. Do this three more times and then cut the four strips apart.
  • Glue the ends together. Add the strips to the top of the goodie box, allowing it to encircle the top rim. Trim as needed to match scallops.
  • Cut/emboss S4-235 Fancy Tags from orange cardstock. Add stickers and brads and glue to the box.
  • After coloring the image, cut/emboss with S4-161 Labels One, a size that fits the majority of the image with some parts sticking out. Use some low tack tape to keep the image from moving. Any part that overlaps the edge, cut on either side and pull the part above the die. Then cut in the Wizard.
  • To create a mat for the stamped image, cut/emboss purple cardstock S4-161 Labels One, one size larger than the die-cut stamp.
  • On the back side of the stamped image, place a bamboo skewer and use 3D adhesives to hold it in.  Place the mat onto the back side.
  • Add some crumpled paper on the bottom of the goodie box. Layer a coffee filter on top and place the bunny sign down into the filter and paper. Fill the filter with goodies and display for a happy treat center.
