Be Joyful layered card

9 Apr

If you have been with me for any length of time (thanks, by the way) you may know that I’ve been designing for Cut Card Stock for several years and before that, Spellbinders Paper Arts. I’ve designed a lot of cards over the years but the one I just created is a new favorite for me.Image

I’m not sure what it is but I think the colors, the balance, the sentiment, the die-cuts just came together beautifully. Thankfully some days are just like that.

Happy Easter to all…and have a creative day. Eli

Goodwill Goodies!

16 Feb

I love Goodwill. I go there to peruse the aisles of kitchen gadgets, china, storage items and so much more. I’m always looking for interesting things to alter. This week, I stumbled upon a couple of blue bins that I knew would be fun for my craft room. A crafter can always use more cute storage bins, right? The one on the left is the before.

This is a super simple project. I used patterned papers from one stack to be sure that they all coordinated. I traced each shape I needed onto the paper and hand trimmed. I wanted it to look hand made. If you want it to be more polished, use a paper trimmer. I inked the edges to give them some depth and then adhered them with PVA glue (my favorite).

Here are a couple more images:

I embellished each with a couple of stamped images. I put the 2 bins up on a shelf and added tags to them for a quick grab. They make me smile. I hope they do you as well.

Happy Crafting!! Eli

Quilt-ish card

6 Mar

I am trying a new challenge blog today for inspiration: The Play Date Cafe. I have visited a few times and finally had the time to plunge into this challenge:

This was a little harder than I thought: use black and white and a splash of color.

I chose a grayish-green and created this card.

I feel like the “splash” got a little out of control but that’s why it is called a challenge.

It was simple to put together. I layered colored cardstock and white cardstock onto a card base. Then I arranged patterned paper squares and stamped images onto the white rectangle. I used a pen to create the stitch lines on the squares.

Here you can see where I actually stamped right onto the white rectangle.

Important Stuff
Papers Patterned (My Mind’s Eye), Cardstock (Prism)
Stamps and Ink Stitched with Love stamps (JustRite Stampers), Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko)
Extras Sketch Marker BG93  Green Gray (Copic)

Other Stuff PVA Glue, gray pen

Grin card set

20 Feb

Sometimes when I’m working on a craft project, I like to listen to “books on tape”…well audio books that I find online from the library. Last night, I wanted to listen to the end of a great mystery that was intriguing me. So I stamped the “grin” image four times, picked out a few Copic Sketch colors, listened and colored.

I know it sounds kind of “cheater” to do the “audio book” thing but when I read a real book before I go to bed…I just fall asleep…and never get anywhere. So listening while I create is perfect.

I was inspired by this week’s sketch at Card Positioning System. Here is the sketch:

Since I spent a while coloring four stamped images…I decided to make a set of cards.

Each stamped and colored image was die cut with an oval and then layered onto an Aqua scalloped oval, a criss-cross of ribbon, a patterned paper mat and the white cardstock card base. Easy, fun and funky.

Here are the finished cards one-by-one:

Holiday Planner

11 Oct

A few months ago, I was at one of my favorite local stores with concentric circles in red…OK… Target. I found some discounted notebooks that I wanted to alter. The first one I changed up, I turned into a holiday planner.

I took the book apart and embellished the front cover with metallic green paper and holiday images.

The planner is divided into three parts which I labeled: gifts and thanks, cards, and notes. Each tab has a small pocket on the bottom of the page that I covered with the red patterned paper.

Each of these dividers came with a small tab. I covered them with die cut circles on both sides of the page, then I added rub-ons for the titles.  One little trick I used was spraying the red cardstock with Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels (Iridescent Gold) so it shimmered like the yellow and green metallic papers.

In between the dividers are lined pages with plenty of room for journaling gifts to give, thanks to send, cards to make and send and anything else you need to know for the holiday plans.

I’ll be putting this up onto my Etsy shop: Frolicasions. So go check it out!
