I wanted to create something with a modern touch, using the browns, greens and lavender. I think I succeeded.

I love this little stamp and when I saw the colors from Color Throwdown last week, I knew I would use it with some die cut strawberries. Check out this grouping of colors:

I turned those colors into this card.

Lots of die cuts adorn this card but the fun fringe around the red mat was made by those shredding scissors…how fun is that?

Here’s a little close-up.

As always, thanks for stopping by…have a berry special day. Eli

Spring Fling goodie box Tutorial

17 Jan

I have had so much fun working with CutCardStock.com papers. Today, after enduring very cold days and snow last week, my mind turned towards Spring and Easter…I got this darling bunny image from Hambo Stamps (a digital stamp).

I couldn’t resist using it on a cute goodie box.

Instructions/Tutorial

  • Print image and color with Copic Sketch Markers
  • Cut S4-127 Classic Scalloped Squares LG. Use a score tool and score in a square from the divot between the first and second scallops on each side. Then score each corner on the diagonal.
  • Snip on the diagonal of each corner and fold on the score lines so that all the scallops point up. Then cut two contrasting pieces of cardstock at 4×5½”
  • Lay one piece of the just cut cardstock onto your score tool. Mark the left edge at 1/8″ and move it to ¾” line while leaving the bottom corner at the left edge. Score.
  • Flip over the piece and score the other side. Fold both edges in. Complete the scoring and folding with the other rectangles.
  • Add super sticky double-sided tape to the edges of the scalloped square.
  • Add the rectangles to the tape.
  • Add super sticky double-sided tape to the left edge of each of the rectangles as seen above. Remove the protective cover from one piece of tape, bring two sides together and secure. Complete the other three junctions.
  • Using purple cardstock cut S4-239 Classic Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite. After cutting the first time, use the inverted top scalloped edge to cut another strip. Do this three more times and then cut the four strips apart.
  • Glue the ends together. Add the strips to the top of the goodie box, allowing it to encircle the top rim. Trim as needed to match scallops.
  • Cut/emboss S4-235 Fancy Tags from orange cardstock. Add stickers and brads and glue to the box.
  • After coloring the image, cut/emboss with S4-161 Labels One, a size that fits the majority of the image with some parts sticking out. Use some low tack tape to keep the image from moving. Any part that overlaps the edge, cut on either side and pull the part above the die. Then cut in the Wizard.
  • To create a mat for the stamped image, cut/emboss purple cardstock S4-161 Labels One, one size larger than the die-cut stamp.
  • On the back side of the stamped image, place a bamboo skewer and use 3D adhesives to hold it in.  Place the mat onto the back side.
  • Add some crumpled paper on the bottom of the goodie box. Layer a coffee filter on top and place the bunny sign down into the filter and paper. Fill the filter with goodies and display for a happy treat center.

Shabby Chic Thank You card (2S4Y 59)

25 Aug

A simple but wonderful sketch challenge over at 2Sketches4You this week:

And here is my rendition of it:

In this close up you can see some of the intricate machine stitching I did. It is actually a hem stitch with every fifth stitch being created in a zigzag and “couching” the specialty fiber in order to keep it on the card.

It was fun to create and hopefully will be fun to receive.

Dream Clipboard (Color Throwdown #103)

4 Aug

I saw this color combination over at the Color Throwdown blog and it really reminded me of strawberries but for some reason (maybe the fact that I just got some new stamps, not including strawberries) when I put this little project together there were no strawberries. It’s funny how the brain begins in one place and ends in a totally different one.

Although I’m late to enter the challenge, I figured I might as well share with you all anyway.

And here are the papers and some of the other supplies I chose:

I had a mini clipboard hanging on my bulletin board above my craft table for some time…can’t even remember where I got it. I thought it would be a cute project (at least I hoped it would…you decide)

Want to make one? Here are some quick tips…

  • Cover the back and front with tan cardstock, cutting the cardstock larger than the clipboard. Sand the edges of the paper to get a perfectly fitting edge.
  • If you are unable to remove the clipping mechanics, measure and notch.

  • Cut ruched paper with Spellbinders Labels One and Floral Accents. Cut celery paper with heart from Decorative Photo Corners. Stencil as desired.
  • Trim a 2″ ruched paper strip for the front. Distress edges and adhere.
  • Stamp Rubbernecker’s Woman with Parasol (three times) and Mystic Dream onto cut celery paper.
  • Cut the stamped woman with Petite Scalloped Ovals, SM. Use Copic markers to color shoes and parasol.
  • Use Air Brush System to color the dress. Cut it out. Cut out the woman’s arm from the third stamped image. Layer elements onto scalloped oval and add, along with the Labels One, to the back of the clipboard.
  • Hand print “dreamy” words around the label on the back.
  • Add heart to top of clip and Floral Accent just behind.

There are so many things you can do to decorate this little dude. Why not pick some up today and give it a whirl.

Important Stuff
Papers Red ruched and Light Coffee Brown (WorldWin); Chloe’s Closet green patterned (Making Memories)
Stamps Woman with Parasol, Mystic Dream (Rubbernecker)

Adhesives Glue Dots, EZ-Dots dispenser (Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L)

Delight in Everything (CPS 152)

3 Feb

I found this to be a very interesting sketch, giving lots of interesting possibilities for design. I thought about what might be the most obvious to me, placing some strips down the center and adding some triangular elements on the top at the ends. So, to change it up, I decided to cut out the triangular pieces instead. Here is the result!

Important Stuff: Patterned papers (Fancy Pants); Wizard™, S4-161 Labels One, S4-252 Big Scalloped Ovals LG (Spellbinders™); E-Z Runner (SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES by 3L); Glue Rings (GlueArts); Sticky Strips (Therm O Web)

Other Stuff: Grosgrain ribbon

Here are a few hints on how to create this type of card.

Cutting the ends using the S4-161 Labels One (#4, counting #1 at the center) by lining up the points with the corners of the cardstock. Secure with low tac tape to keep the die template from slipping. Run it through the Wizard™ to cut and then emboss.

To help the ribbon hug the curve, place adhesive on the back of the ribbon (such as Glue Rings or another mini dotted adhesive) and gently use your fingers to pull the corners of the ribbon tight over the edge. Press in place.

When you finish all four ends, you’ll get this:

A few layers put together and the card will be finished. Here’s a close up!

Top 10 of 2010

31 Jan

My Mind’s Eye Celebrates 2010 as their 10th anniversary. In honor of this milestone they have posted a challenge: create a scrapbook of our own faves on 2010. I thought it would be a fun thing to do as the year moves forward. First, here is the challenge link. Here is the essence of what they are asking: During the month of January you are going to design your cover and album.  The first week of each month, beginning in February, you are going to document your own personal “top ten” for the previous month.

Here is my cover.

Important Stuff: My Mind’s Eye Penny Lane papers, Lola Jane Chic Stripe, My Friend Leaves of Love; Wizard™, S4-235 Fancy Tags, S4-241 Jumbo Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite, S4-261 Labels One, I2-1006 Floral and Stone Impressabilities template (Spellbinders™ Paper Arts);  Spica Orange, Baby Blue glitter pens (Copic)

Other Stuff: Green satin ribbon; Heart, flower, star and butterfly charms; PVA Glue; Recycled board books, 6×6″;

For now, I only completed the cover and sanded all the pages of two board books so they are ready for whatever comes along. Over the next week or so, I’ll complete my January spread and share it here.

Here’s another closer look at the cover. You can see a bit of the sparkle in this one…

Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous week. Eli

CPS Sketch Challenge

5 Dec

Hey there sports fans…um…sketch fans. Just about an hour before deadline, I finished up the CPS: Card Positioning System Sketch for this week. Check out this link if you want to see the sketch. Here is my card:

I’m finding that red and white are a major force in my designing this Christmas season. So I created this monogram card (not Christmas) with my fave (Christmas) colors. I backed the JustRite Square Monogram with a Spellbinders™ Eyelet Pendants…looks just like a doily and I love that. The 1/2″ ribbon brings it all together. I think this would make a good card to create a bunch of to give to a friend or family member.

Important Stuff: Light Heritage White cardstock (WorldWin); Red patterned paper (DCWV); S4-205 Eyelets Pendants; S4-161 Labels One (Spellbinders™), Deluxe Square Monogram Kit (JustRite Stampers), Memento Rhubarb Stalk dye ink (Tsukineko), Glue Dots

Other Stuff: Glitter Glue, Ribbon

Thanks for coming by and have a great rest of the weekend. Happy Creating, Eli
