Thanks Berry Much

5 Apr

I love this little stamp and when I saw the colors from Color Throwdown last week, I knew I would use it with some die cut strawberries. Check out this grouping of colors:

I turned those colors into this card.

Lots of die cuts adorn this card but the fun fringe around the red mat was made by those shredding scissors…how fun is that?

Here’s a little close-up.

As always, thanks for stopping by…have a berry special day. Eli

CD case tutorial

3 Feb

Yesterday, I introduced a project that was inspired by The Shabby Tea Room blog. Here is their post. Here is my project. Today I’m sharing instructions how to make it.

Which began as a humble CD box that I found at the $1 bins at Target {love those}.

  • Spray Basis 80# Pink Cardstock with water and crumple a number of times. Sometimes this takes longer than you think but keep at it. The results are worth it.
  • When altering a pre-made box or other item with a slick surface, sand it to knock off the shine. It will help things adhere to the surface.
  • Trim the crumpled paper so it will fit the height of the box sides.
  • Use PVA Glue to cover the box lid and sides. Spread the glue onto a side and smooth the paper out onto it. Complete the other sides. When covering the front–which has a half circle cut out–cut slits from the top edge to the curved edge and glue them on the inside. Cover the inside flap of the lid {I did this with flat cardstock, not crumpled}.
  • Using Black Onyx Stardream Metallic cardstock, cut/emboss two strips, twelve inches long using S4-239 Classic Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite. You’ll want to cut a piece out of the center and then cut either end by lining up the scallops on the end of the first strip. Remove the cut circles from the center and glue the strips together.
  • Cut/emboss four sunflowers from flat Basis 80# Pink Cardstock as follows: 2 of the large and 1 of the small sunflowers from S4-158 Sunflower Set Two, 1 of the sunflower from S5-004 Sunflower Garden Edgeability
  • Using your fingers, curve the flow petals down.
  • Glue the two pieces together with petals peaking between petals as seen below.
  • Using dimensional adhesive, add two squares on top of the large flowers and one on top of the middle flower.
  • Stack the flower layers and add the hole punches to the center of the top.
  • Add 2 more dimensional adhesive pieces to the bottom of the flower and adhere it to the bottom of the lid’s flap.
  • Glue the black band around the box.
  • Adhere black dots around the box.  I used one on the flap to cover the blue spot that you can see above.
  • Tie two ribbons around the flower. Trim the tails of one, as shown. Leave the other tails long so the box can be tied closed.
  • Cover a large brad with Watermark ink. Heat emboss with black embossing powder. Apply 2-3 coats to make it really shine. Then insert it into the center of the black band so you’ll have a place to tie the box closed.
There you have it. Using only two papers…look what you can do!

Spring Fling goodie box Tutorial

17 Jan

I have had so much fun working with CutCardStock.com papers. Today, after enduring very cold days and snow last week, my mind turned towards Spring and Easter…I got this darling bunny image from Hambo Stamps (a digital stamp).

I couldn’t resist using it on a cute goodie box.

  • Print image and color with Copic Sketch Markers
  • Cut S4-127 Classic Scalloped Squares LG. Use a score tool and score in a square from the divot between the first and second scallops on each side. Then score each corner on the diagonal.
  • Snip on the diagonal of each corner and fold on the score lines so that all the scallops point up. Then cut two contrasting pieces of cardstock at 4×5½”
  • Lay one piece of the just cut cardstock onto your score tool. Mark the left edge at 1/8″ and move it to ¾” line while leaving the bottom corner at the left edge. Score.
  • Flip over the piece and score the other side. Fold both edges in. Complete the scoring and folding with the other rectangles.
  • Add super sticky double-sided tape to the edges of the scalloped square.
  • Add the rectangles to the tape.
  • Add super sticky double-sided tape to the left edge of each of the rectangles as seen above. Remove the protective cover from one piece of tape, bring two sides together and secure. Complete the other three junctions.
  • Using purple cardstock cut S4-239 Classic Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite. After cutting the first time, use the inverted top scalloped edge to cut another strip. Do this three more times and then cut the four strips apart.
  • Glue the ends together. Add the strips to the top of the goodie box, allowing it to encircle the top rim. Trim as needed to match scallops.
  • Cut/emboss S4-235 Fancy Tags from orange cardstock. Add stickers and brads and glue to the box.
  • After coloring the image, cut/emboss with S4-161 Labels One, a size that fits the majority of the image with some parts sticking out. Use some low tack tape to keep the image from moving. Any part that overlaps the edge, cut on either side and pull the part above the die. Then cut in the Wizard.
  • To create a mat for the stamped image, cut/emboss purple cardstock S4-161 Labels One, one size larger than the die-cut stamp.
  • On the back side of the stamped image, place a bamboo skewer and use 3D adhesives to hold it in.  Place the mat onto the back side.
  • Add some crumpled paper on the bottom of the goodie box. Layer a coffee filter on top and place the bunny sign down into the filter and paper. Fill the filter with goodies and display for a happy treat center.

The Gift of Love (CTD #110)

17 Sep

Today, it worked. Inspired by Color Throwdown #110:

I created this card:

This was so fun to put together. Layers of fun, I would say.  I started with the card back, added a dark patterned pink paper. Then I added a strip of the pink paper stamped with Mint Motif’s Square. Next, I cut gray textured cardstock with S4-239, added the Classic Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite scalloped border to the middle and the outer pieces to the top and bottom of the strips. Finally, I cut/embossed/airbrushed S4-049 medallion (retired). To finish off the card, I added the medallion, ribbon and the stamped sentiment. I hope it inspires you today…

Thanks for looking and hope to see you soon!
