Happy Card (2S4Y 59)

17 Aug

It’s great to be back at 2 Sketches 4 You…it’s been a while since I have had a chance to wander over there to try out a sketch challenge. Here is this week’s challenge by Kazan:

Today, I started with the chipboard tag in the middle and built the card around it. I loved the two polka dot papers and chose cardstock to set the images off. Adding a sticker to the tag and some machine stitching finished it off. It is a happy card, indeed. Thanks for stopping by to check it out.

Important Stuff
Papers Treasures Pure White, ColorMates Medium Hawaiian Blue (WorldWin); Yellow textured/Scalloped (Die Cuts with a View), Polka Dot papers (Making Memories)
Embellishments Heidi Grace Chipboard tag (Fiskars), White Sticker Word (Bo-Bunny Press)
Adhesive Zip Dry Liquid Glue (Beacon)

Other Stuff PVA Glue, blue thread, sewing machine, blue beads

How about one more look, close-up:

Sincere Thanks

23 Apr

After my last “cheeky” post, I thought a little sincerity was in order, especially since this card honors mom. (Mother’s Day is May 9th.)

I had some fun with this card by creating some patterned vellum and using sewing to put the whole thing together. Here are the full instructions:

  1. Using gutter guard, air brush system and dark pink Copic Marker, air brush over holes to create a pattern on vellum. (Here is a piece of gutter guard that I have used with a variety of colors.)
  2. Stamp Floral Garden onto vellum, using dye ink and impressing onto the “non-airbrushed” side. Be careful not to let the stamp slide on the vellum. Sprinkle with clear embossing powder. {Even though it is dye ink, it will stay wet longer on the vellum.} Tap off excess and heat set.
  3. Using more Copic markers, color in the flowers and butterflies. Tear edges of vellum.
  4. Trim a dark pink paper to fit card front.
  5. Trim pink patterned paper to fit the dark pink and stamp “Thanks Mom” as shown.
  6. Layer the elements and punch around the outside. {a little temporary adhesive helps the pieces not shift}
  7. Sew horizontally around sentiment and at top and bottom of vellum.

One last look. A close-up…

You Fill My Heart (2S4Y)

13 Jan

I just can’t help myself: loving these sketches. My faves came from the gals at 2 Sketches 4 You. This week’s sketch was great fun. Find it HERE. I also seem to be on this purple kick (although if you’ve known me for any length of time, you know that purple often creeps in to my designs)…so who am I trying to kid…here you go.

This was the first time I used my S4-204 Fleur de Lis Pendants die template. I absolutely love it. Hanging the single fleur off the bottom of the Pendant was a little inspiration for balance. I think it worked. Here is a close up of the sentiment.

and of the charm…

Important Stuff:  Wizard™, S4-204 Fleur de Lis Pendant (Spellbinders™), Loving Thoughts sentiment, 2″ Decorative Borders, 2″ round stamper (JustRite Stampers)

Other Stuff: Patterned Papers (My Mind’s Eye, Sonshine), Organza glitter ribbon, Sewing machine, Lavender thread

Back to my Roots

15 Nov

In my little world of paper crafting, I began as a scrapbooker. When I was 5, I remember putting greeting cards inside those old paper albums. At some point, I graduated to real scrapbooks in college and then got restarted when James and I got married.

Today, I thought I’d share some scrapbooking layouts. The theme? My birthday…what fun, since it was yesterday. My family gave me a great day. Thanks to Hannah and James.

Let’s see this one a few years ago. (It was the ONLY time I turned 39, really). The challenge for you is to see if you can find all 39 candles.

Next, how about a trip back in time to my first birthday. Since these are the original, vintage photos, I used clear photo corners to put them on the page. Just in case I ever need to remove them for any reason.

Now, in honor of the snow we have outside today is a layout of Hannah. This is one of my favorite photos of her on Christmas, outside in the snow. I love those pink cheeks and the colorful snow suit she is wearing.

Thanks for letting me share some of where I began in this industry. I’ve changed a lot over the years but my love for this type of paper craft will never disappear.

Happy shoveling and creating…Eli
