Sunny Friend

22 Mar

Just a quick post today which was inspired by Card Positioning System. At first I was perplexed by the sketch but after I thought of using circles instead of squares, the sun and sunshine came to mind. Here is the sketch:

Imagine it sideways, like this:

Hope your spring has started off in a sunny way! See you soon.

Thoughts and Prayers

15 Mar

I haven’t been over to Card Positioning System in a while but this sketch is so fabulous (#209)

This card came to be fairly quickly. Although the central image changed a few times, I think the final design works well.

Two techniques that I think are worth a second look: Stenciled butterfly and box pleated ribbon.

1) After cutting the butterfly, I laid a stencil on top of it and sprayed it with Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels. A light mist is best and after drying more layers can be added. Simple but maybe something you hadn’t thought of before.

This technique, placed over patterned paper makes it somewhat subdued but it provides a lovely addition to the vellum

2) Box pleating is an elegant but different way to bring texture to a ribbon. Folding it is like creating two Z’s that face back-to-back. I toyed with different ways to glue the pleats together but finally decided on stapling. It worked and I tucked the stapled edge under the edge of the mat.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you are inspired to try a new technique.

Color Throwdown is a challenge blog that I have recently begun enjoying. Each week, someone from the team offers a color combo for paper crafters to use. Great fun!

This week, the team asked designers to send their creation to a fellow crafter who has been diagnosed with Cancer.  Thanks, CTd for a great focus for this week’s creations and reminding us that we are all in this together.

Here is the color combo for the week.

I just received the “tile-ish” stamp images and wanted to try them out.

It doesn’t necessarily fit the shabby theme of the  site but it was fun to do anyway. Thanks for visiting and come again soon.

Love chipboard album (CPS 187)

6 Oct

I just fell in love with this simple yet brilliant sketch from Card Positioning System.

I wanted to use something besides a circle at the center. So I grabbed my Fleur de Lis Pendants die template. Here is the result of the cover for this chipboard album.

For the photo corners, I used the center die cut of the Fleur de Lis Pendant, cut in quarters. Since the paper was brown and white, it was hard to see on the pink. I added some brown patterned paper under neath to highlight the Fleur de Lis shape.

Here are some of the other pages:

If you get a chance, skip on over to my Etsy shop, Frolicasions, and see the whole journal {also see several other journals and paper crafts}. Thanks, Eli

My Storybook (CPS 185)

21 Sep

As school is in full swing, I am working hard to create plenty of items for the Christmas season craft fairs. Those of you who know me, know I have a love of travel journals, little notebooks and other spiral creations. Today, I put together a child’s storybook.

I’m sure you can remember those days of beginning to print your name, short phrases, sentences and eventually stories of your own creation. Add to that, the thrill of illustrating your own stories. The best place to create such fun is inside a journal with “elementary lines” on the bottom and drawing space on the top.

Voilá!

The inspiration for the cover came from the sketch over at Card Positioning System (#185 below):

Inside the front cover:

Important Stuff
Papers Green and blue patterned (My Mind’s Eye), Green and blue tone-on-tone [used in background] (BasicGrey)
Embellishments S4-268 Nested Pears (Spellbinders); Bind-it-All, Black Owires (Zutter)
Adhesive Black 3-D squares (Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L)

Other Stuff Olive green and light green cardstocks, PVA Glue

trick or treat (2S4Y 60)

7 Sep

It’s the beginning of September and Halloween is the end of October but all of a sudden, it’ll be here. I used the sketch at 2 Sketches 4 You (#60) to inspire this Pumpkin card. Here is the sketch:

And here is the result:

Making this pumpkin was great fun. Let me share how:

  • Cut S4-227 Pumpkins with two pieces of patterned paper
  • Remove one of the pieces and set aside. Then layer the following for embossing in the Wizard™: Cut mat, Impressabilities® template, Die cut with cut side up and paper in die, embossing mat, cut mat. Keeping the paper in the die will give the shape a flat edge. If you’d like embossing to go all the way to the edge, just take it out of the die.
  • Run it through the Wizard.
  • Then sand the pumpkin to enhance the embossed edges. This piece of patterned paper was a little fragile after all the “working” it. I think it just adds to the character of it. But if you prefer, use a heartier piece or maybe a colored core cardstock.
Then just put it all together!

Important Stuff
Papers Fun in the Sun Matstack, Latte Matstack (Die Cuts with a View); Natural cardstock for card base (WorldWin)
Die Cuts S4-226 Harvest Borderabilities® Petite, S4-198 Flourish Accent, S4-227 Pumpkins, I2-1009 Flourish Impressabilities™ (Spellbinders™ Paper Arts)
Stamp/Ink Studio G trick or treat stamp (Hampton Arts), ColorBox Watermark ink (Clearsnap)
Embellishments Rust Fizz EP (Sparkle N Sprinkle), Sea Mist Glitter (PK Glitz), Orange safety pin (Creative Impressions)

Other Stuff Olive green cardstock
