Reading is Sweet

9 Feb

More inspiration from the Shabby Tea Room (#48)…It’s the most adorable photo inspiration and an a “use hearts” rule. Check this out:

I created a bookmark for my darling daughter who loves to read. I think it is a great Valentine’s Day gift to go along with a piece of chocolate…or maybe a pile of chocolate!

Check out the closer version that shows off the “sugar-topped” chocolates.

Then, just one more look…at the top of the book mark.

Whether your day is full of romantic notions or just a good book to read…have a Happy Valentine’s Day. Come back and visit soon!

Shabby CD Box

1 Feb

The Shabby Tea Room Blog has become one of my favorite places to get inspired to create. This week, the site is having an “audition” of sorts…”Send us your ‘best‘ work,” they said and they’ll choose a few new designers to represent and inspire others. The challenge came from the inspiration here

I ruminated on that image for a while and knew I wanted to create a flower that began as the same shape as the top of the tea pot. It was the point that inspired me. The flower I had in my mind did not to want to be on a card so I rummaged for something to ALTER. I grabbed a CD holder and began transforming it:

Now I have a place to put my photo CD’s…so if I can just find them, they will have a new home…and a cute one, I might add.

Well, I found a couple.

Check out my tutorial from THIS post and create one for yourself.

Cheers, Eli

LOVE chipboard album

20 Jan

Today I want to share a project, LOVE chipboard album, that was inspired by the Shabby Tea Room (one of my new favorite haunts for challenges). The theme, “White and Bright” was enhanced by this photo inspiration:

I love the idea of white or cream in layers but I find it a challenge. I created the cover of this little album over 2 days, switching elements around until I came up with this design.

Here are a few tips on how to create some of the techniques in it.

  • Use recycled snack boxes or cereal boxes as the base of each page and use PVA Glue to adhere metallic papers to either side.
  • To distress the edges, go over them with the crease of a pair of scissors or use a single blade directly on the edge.
  • To bring out the distressed look, ink the edges of the pages. {Not sure how this fits the White and Bright theme but I just couldn’t leave them “naked.”}

  • Next, check out the design of the inner pages. By the way, the album is 4½x6″ so you can get four pages out of a 12×12″ piece of cardstock.

Important Stuff
Papers Opal Stardream Metallics, Natural White cardstocks (CutCardstock.com); Patterned papers (My Mind’s Eye)
Tools Wizard, S7-017 On the Vine Border Grand, S4-214 Eyelet Borderabilities Petite, S4-210 Lattice Pendant; S4-167 Flowers-retired (Spellbinders Paper Arts); Cricut, Jubilee Cartridge, Embossing Sleeve (Provo Craft); Crop-a-Dial punch (We R Memory Keepers)

Your Friendship is a Blessing…my new card that was inspired by the sketch below, which I found at the Shabby Tea Room.

I just received the “tile-ish” stamp images and wanted to try them out.

It doesn’t necessarily fit the shabby theme of the  site but it was fun to do anyway. Thanks for visiting and come again soon.
