Tootsie Roll gift packaging

1 Dec

Hey guys…when I saw this darling packaging for some yummy Peppermint Bark, I couldn’t resist making one of my own. Now that I’ve figured out all the measurements, scoring and such, you can make one (or many) too. So easy and fun to decorate.

But to find out how you make it, head on over to CutCardStock.com. There, I’ll show you everything you’ll need to make this:

One of the best things is that their Stardream Metallics Card Stocks and Papers are on sale this month…perfect for the holidays and they are truly some of my current faves around for metallic papers.

Have a great day and keep on creating!

Beauty layout with Instructions

7 Jan

I’ve had this photo printed for a while and it has been waiting for the day I could scrapbook it. Well, that day finally came.

The photo draws me in and I wanted to find a quote to bring it alive. Sometimes my own words simply don’t capture what I’m trying to say so I look to someone else. Usually I jump over to Quote Garden which is  fabulous for finding quotes on a hoard of themes.

In order to ensure this photo would stand out, I wanted to use a black metallic paper. This one happens to be from CutCardStock.com. It is a piece of 12×12″ cardstock from the Stardream Metallics line, called Onyx. All 12×12″ papers are discounted this month at CutCardStock.com so definitely go check out the site.

I also wanted to use a technique that would bring out the distinctive beauty of this paper. I decided to score the entire page to make it appear quilted.

Here is how you can do it too.

Using your favorite scoring tool, rotate the page “on point” and place at 8½”, one on the vertical and one on the horizontal.

Score place your score tool into the groove at 8½” and then run it down to the bottom of the platform. Repeat by one inch increments on either side. Because of the page size, you will not be able to complete the full score lines. I recommend pulling the paper up beyond the top ruler and carefully continue to score.

If needed rotate the page 180° to complete the first set of diagonal lines. Then turn the page 90°  and employ the same process for a finished page.

Feel free to use this side or, turn it over, as I did, for a slightly different look.

Trim  your photo to 4×5-½”. Also trim a mat from Curious Metallics Bloom. Punch the corners of both.

Create page embellishments by die cutting/embossing S5-012 Classic Frame (2 times from Stardream Metallics Opal), and S7-017 On the Vine Border Grand (once from Stardream Metallics Opal and once from Curious Metallics Bloom). Keep the inside of the frames for later use.

{Doesn’t that embossing look amazing!}

Trim the leaves off of the Bloom colored Vine and then trim to make the vine smooth.

Create the title block by adding letter stickers to the Opal block leftover from cutting the frame. Write the rest of the quote onto a chipboard tag and add it to the bottom of the block.

Assemble the photo frame by layering the two frames so that the pieces create a heart shape where they come together.

Then add the photo and mat.

Assemble the page as shown and enjoy for years to come.

Snowflake Coasters Tutorial

16 Dec

Christmas is on its way and many of us “creative-types” have been cutting, gluing, printing and wrapping for weeks in anticipation of the big season, focusing on red, green, red, green. With only a few variations.

Today, I thought outside the box for a gift that would endure beyond the season.

First, I wanted to focus on some other colors… I chose three rich, earthy colors from CutCardStock.com: Olive, Teal and Dark Purple. I added Classic Natural White to give it some punch. Second, I remembered a pack of paper coasters I recently bought at Michael’s for 90% off…yep, only $.10 a pack…I bought four of them. Here is the finished project.

Except for some drying time, this is a quick project. Here’s how:

  • Gather your supplies (see list below)
  • Sand the coasters
  • Cut 8 pieces of Classic Natural White card stock 4×4″ and adhere to coasters.
  • Trim excess paper by flipping the coaster over and trimming with a craft knife.
  • Cut 8 pieces of the colored card stocks 3½x3½” {I cut 3 Olive, 3 Teal and 2 Dark Purple.}
  • Punch corners of colored mats and adhere to the center.
  • To smooth out the edges and corners, sand.
  • Die cut/emboss a plethora of snowflakes from Classic Natural White {I used three or four flakes on each of the coasters.} and adhere them to the coasters.
  • Add a nickel-size amount of Liquid Laminate onto the top of the coaster. Use a foam brush to spread the Laminate. To create a bit of texture, wipe horizontally and then vertically. Smooth, slow strokes will help reduce bubbles.
  • Allow to dry. Apply another coat.
  • When the coasters are completely dry, wrap and give to a loved one! 🙂

Here are all the coasters. The first one was taken before it was sealed with Liquid Laminate.  The second was taken after.
